VTA SP8 assembly manual PAGE 1

1 - above is the photo of the bare PCB, this is where we start, along with the stuffing diagram and parts list.
Before starting to stuff parts on the PCB, you'll want to do 2 things:
a - if you have a chassis ready, you'll want to mark the mounting hole positions on the chassis,
by laying the PCB in place, and making a pencil or pin mark for each mounting hole.
There are 8 mounting hole positions, but you only need to use 6 of them. Drill the mounting holes in the chassis.
b - Take the mounting spacers and screws, and attach them to the PCB for easier parts assembly

2 - start with the resistors. There are 18 of the 220 ohm resistors, make double sure they are in the correct
positions before soldiering. Continue going down the parts list, and placing the resistors in the PCB.

3 - finish placing and soldiering all the resistors into place, then you can add the diodes and other smaller parts.

4 - add the tube sockets and fuse holder. When soldiering the tube sockets in place, soldier just two pins on
each socket on opposite sides, and then check to see they are all level with the PCB and each other.
Doing this will make a much better looking finished PCB. Before soldiering all the tube socket pins,
you can correct the level on each one if needed by resoldiering the first two pins on each until they are all level.
Once that is done, you can soldier all of the tube sockets pins.
Make sure each soldier connection is clean and bright and shiny, not too much or too little soldier.

5 - now add the smaller non-polarized capacitors, by going down the parts list. Make sure each is in the correct location.

6 - here we are just adding the last 6 smaller caps, the black 0.33uf ones.

7 - now we are adding the larger polarized capacitors,
there are 2 - 4700uf 25v (C305 & C306 in upper right corner), and 8 - 22uF 450v
In this photo we have also added R301 and R302 which hadn't been done above.

8 - here we've added the filament and B+ regulator parts, listed on the top section of the parts list for the SP8
These parts are not used or needed for the SP6 version

9 - just a difference view after adding the regulator parts, here you can see the tiny HV regulator U1
hidden behind the Q1 TIP50 transistor.
contact us by email if you have any questions, or wish to special order any other extra parts such as a selector switch,
volume control, balance control, power switch, RCA connections, IEC power input, or one of our custom VTA preamp chassis,
we can completely customize this preamp for you.
